About Us
The beauty of wood & craftsmanship
Some of my earliest memories are working with wood. I remember long hours in my dad's workshop tidying up or simply learning how to sharpen a chisel. Each school holiday was spent working with him (a gifted joiner). I don't remember a time when tools and timber were not in my hand.
At the age of 17, I began an apprenticeship with a group of cabinetmakers and antique restorers. Here I was introduced to the wonder of old craftsmanship. After two years I began to study furniture design in Glasgow. Yet I never lost my love of the old furniture. I loved the history; the detail; the timber; the development of construction; the stories that would be held within the piece of furniture. I was hooked! So I moved to High Wycombe (An important historic centre for furniture) to study furniture history and craftsmanship. It was a place full of those who loved to make and design and craft. Potters, glass blowers, furniture designers and metal workers. Some very gifted and creative people. It was here that I met my lovely wife, Eleanor, an artist, glassblower & potter.
Together we moved to West Sussex so that I could work with a team of Cabinet Makers and Restorers. It was a joy and privilege. For many years I made and restored the finest of pieces of furniture and wood craftsmanship for private and stately homes, wealthy clients, and world-leading exhibitions. Most pieces were five-figure sums and sometimes six! It was a privilege to create and work on such special items and homes.
In recent years I put down my tools in order to care for and pastor two churches. My love for wood took second place to my love for people. As a minister of the gospel, I learned what beauty really means. I learnt the importance of honesty, happiness, care, kindness and working hard. I learnt what really matters to people. Yet unexpected things can happen in life and circumstances meant that I needed to return to my tools. I do so with a fresh awareness of what is valuable in life.
Simple, honest craftsmanship, using lovely materials, striving to do a good job and make something beautiful. That's what we are about. In a complicated and rushed world what a simple thing it is to surprise someone by doing a really good job; by being kind, happy and helpful; then giving them something that puts a smile on their face each time they see it or use it.
Please don't hesitate to contact us if we can help you. It doesn't matter whether it's big or small; something new or something old. We aren't a big operation so you will get our full attention. From my skill and experience to my wife's artistic eye. No doubt you'll even get my three lovely and enthusiastic daughters wanting to help at each step. We look forward to meeting you.
God Bless.
